Dave Jackson Biography
David Eldon Jackson (1978–2004)
David Eldon Jackson was a proud Purdue alumnus, dedicated Marwood man, and loyal friend whose impact on those around him continues to be felt long after his time at the house. Dave lived at Marwood Cooperative House at Purdue University from 1997 to 2001, where he quickly became a central figure in the life and culture of the house.
During his time at Marwood, Dave exemplified what it meant to be a Marwood man. He served the house in several leadership roles, including President and House Manager, and was recognized by his peers with the honor of Outstanding Member in Fall of 1999 and Spring of 2000. Dave was also selected as Marwood Man of the Year in 2000. Dave believed deeply in the values of cooperation, responsibility, and brotherhood that define the Marwood community.
Dave’s connection to Marwood extended beyond his own membership. His brother Todd was also a resident of the house, and the Jackson family played a cherished role in one of Marwood’s longstanding traditions: for many years they provided the meat for the annual Homecoming hog roast, helping make it one of the most anticipated gatherings of the year. Dave also carried Marwood traditions beyond campus by hosting the house’s annual barn dance at the Jackson family farm, welcoming friends for an evening that perfectly blended Purdue camaraderie with his agricultural roots.
Like many Marwood men, Dave helped shape the traditions and stories that would be told for years afterward. His pickup truck was often the vehicle of choice for the house tradition known as “Wabashing.” Another legendary moment came when Dave accidentally spilled a jar of mint oil in the house—an event that left the entire upstairs of Marwood smelling like mint for what seemed like forever.
Dave also approached life with a sense of humor and practicality that those who knew him will never forget. When it came time for intramural basketball, Dave often showed up ready to play wearing blue jeans, embodying the country-boy attitude he brought to everything he did.
Outside the house, Dave enjoyed the simpler moments of college life, playing pool at Nick’s with friends and sharing a pitcher of beer after a long week. These moments captured what people remember most about Dave: his easygoing nature, his humor, and the way he brought people together.
After graduating from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agribusiness, Dave went on to work for Land O’Lakes while continuing his connection to agriculture through farming. His life reflected the values he carried from his upbringing and his time at Purdue: hard work, loyalty, and a strong sense of community.
Dave’s life was tragically cut short in a car accident in 2004, but the friendships he built and the traditions he strengthened remain part of the Marwood legacy.
As part of Marwood’s new member process, each active member provided a personal quote alongside their biographical information. Dave’s quote was:
“Live fast, die young, leave a good-looking corpse.”
Those that knew Dave, know that he did just that.
